Experience
Counts
Having a strong background in the music business is a very
important asset in today's market. There are no real shortcuts to success. A
clear understanding of the total musical presentation, from the individual
musical works, to the presentation on stage, require insight, as well as
foresight. Having a plan will save time and money, and, help keep stress within
tolerable levels. Too often, a great product is lost due to lack of direction,
or, failure to recognize that "Haste means Waste!"
This is where experience counts.
Al
Pethtel
Some people claim world's of experience, but, few have
actually been lucky enough to have grown up in the early days of Rock and Roll.
As a child, hearing the early broadcasts from the pioneering radio stations of
Cleveland, then moving onto the stages of the late 60's, Al Pethtel has
experienced the changes first hand. Some of his early friends have achieved
legendary status. Hall of Famers Joe Walsh(Eagles) and Chrissie Hynde(Pretenders)
started out in Kent, Ohio, as did The Raspberries (Eric Carmen), and world-renowned
guitarist Phil Keaggy. Walsh offered Al his first real roadie position with The
James Gang, which would lead to major tours, and, an opportunity to meet with
such greats as Jimi Hendrix, The Who (Tommy Tour), Bob Seger, Ted Nugent, Alice Cooper, the
legendary promoter Bill Graham (The Fillmore East/West), and many others. Then,
as a technician/road manager for the Glass Harp, and, Phil Keaggy, the, now,
"Crazy" Al would get to work in front of crowds of up to 450,000
people! Imagine that!
This meant being at the forefront of the musical
revolution of the 70's. Technology was being invented to aid a fledgling
industry, just ripe with ideas, and thirsty for change! Recording techniques
were being tested, acoustic innovations were needed, as instruments and
amplification evolved, and, a whole new life style was being forged. The world
of Rock and Roll, R&B, Soul, and Country had gone electric!
Now, the means are Digital, and, as the times changed..., so
did Al. Wanting to be up to date meant hanging with the new technologists and
doing a lot of Q&A. Berklee School of Music was the next step, and, after
completing some studies in digital recording, he upgraded his studio with the
latest PRO TOOLS Mastering software and prepared himself for the digital realm.
